A couple of years ago my good friend Carla introduced me to an idea that has changed the way I make choices and view shopping. Basically, my shopping choices matter and there is a face behind every product I own. It’s crazy when you look at the shopping industry that way. I’m not saying I’ve changed over night, but I am really trying to make an effort and pay attention to things I buy.
Knowing that ethical shopping tugs on my heart, Liz told me to listen to Jamie Ivey’s Happy Hour Podcast with Hayley Morgan. Hayley is the founder of an ethical kids clothing company called WildyCo. Even more than what I’ve already been feeling, she convicted me about making more purposeful shopping choices. Buying with the idea of quality over quantity and really needing less to thrive. Check out what she says about “fast fashion,”—Liz and I are both guilty of this from time to time. There’s so much more in this episode and I highly recommend listening to it! (Side note: all of Jamie’s podcasts are really good and I’m thankful Liz introduced me to her!)
Anyways, in my search to make better buying choices, I came across a company on Instagram called Beautycounter. Their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
“At Beautycounter, we’re committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what’s required by U.S. law: We’ve banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through our “Never List”—all while ensuring our products perform and that they’re as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.”
Beautycounter sells skincare, makeup, and children’s skincare products. I saw they were releasing a limited line of their products at Target yesterday and decided to give it a try. Their products are not super cheap, but Target is offering a $5 gift card with each $20 purchase (Every item is over $20 so you can make separate transactions for each to get multiple gift cards!)
Each product has a coupon code as well to get a free mascara with a purchase from the Beautycounter online shop, so that’s a bonus!
I bought a face wash and face lotion to try. I used both last night and this morning and I really like them so far. My skin doesn’t feel super oily which is usually my problem. And above all, I like knowing I am putting safer products on my skin. (And if you are judging my picture—YES PEOPLE, I STILL HAVE NOT FINISHED PAINTING MY BATHROOM LOL!)
Obviously since I bought these products yesterday, I can’t show you any specific improvements from just 24 hours, but here’s a pic of my little Bug and I after I got ready this morning!
If you are looking for some new products that are safe on your skin check out the Beautycounter products at Target!
